A Visit by Professor McGinty

This week, Year 6 Children were taken back in time with Professor McGinty and his time machine. The children were given an opportunity to examine and experience war time artefacts from his mobile museum. His amazing interactive story telling technique, displays of pictures on his time machine, a selection of costumes and smells from the past were entertaining and informative. The children had a wonderful time as history was brought to life.

Shelters

The children in Year 6 have been building shelters as part of their D&T and History topic. They were able to bring in their own materials as well as use school supplied materials. Initially they designed their shelters in their booklets thinking about appearance, purpose and construction methods. Once they were built they were tested with weights to check its robustness.

Picasso

The children looked at art work by Picasso especially a piece called Guernica based on World War II.  Using this as an inspiration the children drew their own version.

Then the children carved their drawing into the polystyrene reading for printing.

They used a combination of white, grey and black to mimic Picasso’s original.

Redridge, Wales

During last term Year 6 went to Redridge in Wales, where the children and teachers had a fantastic time participating in outdoor activities such as caving, canoeing, abseiling, rock climbing and mountain walking.
